چکیده

Fine time-resolved analysis of matter - i.e. spectroscopy and photon scattering in the linear response regime requires a fs-scale pulsed, high repetition rate, fully coherent X-ray source. A seeded Free-Electron Laser (FEL) driven by Super-Conducting Linac, generating $10^{8}$-$10^{10}$ photons at 2-5 keV with abou 0.5 MHz can address this need. The seeding scheme proposed is Echo-Enabled Harmonic Generation, alimented FEL Oscillator working 13.6 nm cavity based on Mo-Si mirrors. whole chain generation here described means start-to-end simulations. Comparisons Self Amplified Spontaneus Emission fresh-bunch harmonic cascade performed similar electron beams show validity scheme.

Echo-enabled harmonic generation free electron laser

In this paper, we systematically study the echo-enabled harmonic generation (EEHG) free electron laser (FEL). The EEHG FEL uses two modulators in combination with two dispersion sections that allow one to generate in the beam a high harmonic density modulation starting with a relatively small initial energy modulation of the beam. After presenting an analytical theory of the phenomenon, we addr...

First ultraviolet high-gain harmonic-generation free-electron laser.

We report the first experimental results on a high-gain harmonic-generation (HGHG) free-electron laser (FEL) operating in the ultraviolet. An 800 nm seed from a Ti:sapphire laser has been used to produce saturated amplified radiation at the 266 nm third harmonic. The results confirm the predictions for HGHG FEL operation: stable central wavelength, narrow bandwidth, and small pulse-energy fluct...

Ultraviolet high-gain harmonic-generation free-electron laser at BNL

We report the first experimental results on a high-gain harmonic-generation (HGHG) free-electron laser (FEL) operating in the ultraviolet. An 800 nm seed from a Ti-Sapphire laser has been used to produce saturated amplified output at the 266 nm third-harmonic. The results confirm the advantages of the HGHG FEL: stable central wavelength, narrow bandwidth and small pulse energy fluctuation. The ...

Evidence of high harmonics from echo-enabled harmonic generation for seeding x-ray free electron lasers.

Echo-enabled harmonic generation free electron lasers hold great promise for the generation of fully coherent radiation in x-ray wavelengths. Here we report the first evidence of high harmonics from the echo-enabled harmonic generation technique in the realistic scenario where the laser energy modulation is comparable to the beam slice energy spread. In this experiment, coherent radiation at th...

Echo-Enabled Harmonic Generation Studies for the FERMI Free-Electron Laser

Studying ultrafast processes on the nanoscale with element specificity requires a powerful femtosecond source of tunable extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) or x-ray radiation, such as a free-electron laser (FEL). Current efforts in FEL development are aimed at improving the wavelength tunability and multicolor operation, which will potentially lead to the development of new characterization techniques o...
